As often happens with me, in searching on-line for information, I came across the late Jessye Norman singing Amazing Grace. The event, in 1995 at the Kennedy Center, in New York, was a tribute to Sidney Poiter.
I have found that as the years go by, I have become more susceptible to musical moods. In other words, I become emotional when hearing various pieces of music or songs.
This Jessye Norman rendition of Amazing Grace, for me at least, required a good many tissues and noise blowing afterwards.
When you watch the clip, you’ll notice both Sidney Poiter and Bill Clinton fighting the tears.
Jessye Norman was blessed with a distinct voice, which brought pleasure to millions around the world.
A longtime favourite of mine is from a performance Jessye Norman gave in Paris about 15 years ago, she sings, accompanied just by a piano, the Habanera aria from Carmen. It never fails to give me goose-pimples.
Enjoy.
